Paul Soter, Super Troopers

Conceived and executed with masterful laziness by comedy troupe Broken Lizard, Super Troopers wears its post-”Police Academy” shoddiness like a badge of honor — and ends up feeling far more fresh than the now-jejune juvenilia of the Farrelly brothers. The beside-the-point plot involves five Vermont state troopers and their feud with some evil local cops — but all you really need to know is that venerable thespian Brian Cox (as their blustery chief) relieves himself on a speeder’s vehicle. That the Lizard boys had the temerity to cast Cox in the first place is indicative of their goal: good, stoopid humor from the smart(er) end of Frat Row.
