Shakira escaped injury on Friday when bad weather forced her helicopter down onto a baseball diamond in the Dominican Republic, the Associated Press reports. The Colombian singer, who is vacationing in the Caribbean country with her parents and her brother, was en route from Punta Cana to La Romana, where the family’s vacation home is. Strong winds and heavy rains forced the chopper to make an emergency landing. It’s not clear who else was in the helicopter, but no one was injured, authorities told AP.

The 24-year-old singer and her family had arrived last Monday for a monthlong vacation in La Romana, 68 miles east of Santo Domingo, the nation’s capital. She’s due back in the States by Aug. 29, however. That’s when she’s scheduled to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York, where she’s up for four Moonman trophies for ”Whenever, Wherever” (Best Female Video, Best Dance Video, Best Pop Video and Best Cinematography in a Video). Also performing are Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Pink, and Sean ”P. Diddy” Combs.
