When is Kevin Costner going to realize that moping his way through tearjerker roles is not what made him a movie star? In Dragonfly — just as in Message in a Bottle — he plays a guy grieving for his dead wife, only this time the deceased is sending cryptic messages from beyond. More dreary than eerie, the movie simply crawls along, doling out abstract clues, before delivering closure with a whopper of a revelation. It’s too much, too late. What was probably pitched as a tasteful, romantic ghost story isn’t even entertaining schlock.
