Aniston will join Carrey in ''Bruce Almighty.'' She'll play the love interest, while he gets to play God -- for one day
Jennifer Aniston is winning raves for her dark role in the upcoming film ”The Good Girl,” and she and hubby Brad Pitt have matching Emmy nominations for their work on ”Friends” (she for her lead work, he for his Thanksgiving guest spot). How can she top that? Maybe by playing the Supreme Being’s girlfriend. That’s her new role, sort of, in the Jim Carrey comedy ”Bruce Almighty,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.
In director Tom Shadyac’s spiritually minded comedy, Carrey plays Bruce, a newscaster who rails at God over his Job-like suffering. God challenges Bruce to see if he can do any better and makes him omnipotent for one day. Aniston will play Bruce’s girlfriend, the aptly named Grace.
How much Aniston will get to shine as a Carrey love interest is unclear; think of how unmemorable the female roles have been in the other Shadyac-Carrey comedies, ”Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” (Aniston’s ”Friends” castmate Courteney Cox Arquette) and ”Liar Liar” (Maura Tierney). In fact, if anyone gets to upstage Carrey, it’ll probably be the actor who’s in negotiations to play God: Morgan Freeman.
