Penny Marshall was on to something. A generation after her Laverne & Shirley alter ego popularized the monogram, Hollywood has rediscovered the trend. Reese Witherspoon is reportedly obsessed with monogramming sheets and stationery, and Chambord’s monogrammed margarita — which features the drinker’s initial, made out of Chambord-infused honey — is the hot cocktail (fans include Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera). Williams-Sonoma is getting into the act, with branders (right) that barbecuers can use to personalize steaks, and monogrammed toilet paper is available at comfort house.com. Chambord’s John Cooper chalks up the labeling frenzy to the popularity of the ”American preppy look. And what could be more preppy chic than a pink, monogrammed cocktail?” Sure beats the summer-camp combo of masking tape and a Sharpie.
