J. Lo files for divorce
In what was all but a foregone conclusion, Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Reuters reports. The singer/actress, who turned 32 on Wednesday, cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for ending her marriage to dancer/choreographer Cris Judd, to whom she was married for just 10 months, and from whom she was separated for two months.
Lopez met Judd when he was a dancer in one of her videos and started seeing him in early 2001, shortly after her breakup with Sean ”P. Diddy” Combs. By September, they were married, and Judd went on to choreograph her NBC concert in Puerto Rico and cowrite the song ”Alive” from her recent film ”Enough.”
But in recent months, they had reportedly squabbled over his nightclubbing and her focus on her career. Plus, her closeness with ex-husband Ojani Noa (they had a similarly short marriage in 1997-98), whom she hired to run her new restaurant, reportedly made Judd feel like a third wheel. The split was said to be amicable; indeed, the tabloids spotted Lopez and Judd together on several occasions after they announced their separation in June, and several published reports say she’ll pay him a divorce settlement of around $15 million. He might well have asked for more, given his recent contributions to her career, but he and J. Lo were the rare celebrity couple who didn’t have a prenuptial agreement.
Will Lopez rebound from Judd as quickly as she did from Puffy? It certainly looks that way, judging from the tabloid sightings of the busy diva. Since the separation, reports have linked her with old flame Combs and Ralph Fiennes, her costar in the currently shooting romantic comedy ”Uptown Girl.” Both men have denied the rumors, though paparazzi snapped Fiennes and Lopez in an embrace on a New York sidewalk.
The most persistent rumors, however, have involved Ben Affleck, her costar in next year’s ”Gigli” and in Kevin Smith’s soon-to-shoot ”Jersey Girl.” Affleck took out a full page ad in Variety lauding Lopez after ”Gigli” wrapped this spring, and despite his insistence last month that the two were ”only friends,” they’ve been spotted together several times. The New York Post reports that they were kissing at a birthday party for Lopez on Wednesday at a Manhattan restaurant. She introduced him to her parents and relatives, and he gave her a birthday gift of a Harry Winston bracelet of yellow and white diamonds, the Post reports. Gentlemen, start your office pools.
