Somebody up there likes this week’s best-seller chart. Alice Sebold’s debut novel The Lovely Bones (525,000 copies in print), narrated by young Susie Salmon in heaven, ascends seven spots to No. 3 this week, propelled not by book-club muscle but by the good word of critics and readers. Up above it, the latest Christian apocalyptic thriller in the Left Behind series, The Remnant (first printing of 2.75 million), rains hellfire on the No. 1 spot. Lord, have mercy!
