Dixie Chicks: Lisa O'Connor/ZUMA Press

For ”Long Time Gone”, their first single since engaging their corporate parent, Sony, in a legal dispute, the Dixie Chicks chose a pointedly anti-music-biz story about a girl who goes to Nashville to become a star, only to return home and start a family once the career thing doesn’t pan out. She then complains that current music ”ain’t got no soul.” Thankfully, the brisk, bighearted folk-bluegrass arrangement alleviates the lyrics’ bitter aftertaste.
