Rapper Fat Joe’s music is filled with gangsta boasts, but he cooperatively turned himself in to New York police on Wednesday afternoon, the New York Daily News reports. The 31-year-old Joe (real name: Joseph Cartagena) was charged with assault for allegedly punching a man and breaking his jaw during a wee-hours brawl at a Manhattan nightspot in May.

Best known these days for helping Ashanti launch her career with the duet ”What’s Luv?”, the plus-size rapper was at B.B. King’s Blues Club and Grill in Times Square with his crew on May 12 at 4 a.m. when the alleged incident occurred, police said. One member of Joe’s entourage bumped into 31-year-old Steve Carib, an argument started, and Joe allegedly punched Carib in the face and shattered his jaw, according to police.

Fat Joe denies that the fight ever occurred, the New York Post reports. Still, the Bronx-born turned himself in yesterday after returning to New York from a tour in support of last year’s release, ”Jealous Ones Still Envy (J.O.S.E.),” the Post reports.
