Playing against just about every type imaginable, the normally dry — not to mention British — Cary Elwes stars here as a bumbling, virginal Southern insurance adjuster who finds himself seduced by both a money-grubbing harpy (Mary Steenburgen) and a conflicted hired killer (Elaine Hendrix). Awkwardly performed and woefully familiar, this guns-and-groaners bore is yet another entry in the long-expired genre of ”quirky” crime comedies — though at least ”Wish”’s audience will be able to relate to its title.
