THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES

At one point in her one-woman show about the joys of female private parts, Ensler chortles ”Orgasms on HBO!” Well, duh. The self-consciously provocative monologues, based on interviews with real women, are dulled by a smug performance-artist delivery that makes an old-school broad sound about the same as a yuppie lawyer-turned-dominatrix. Much more effective are the too-few clips of giggling, crying, young, and old women speaking in their own voices.
