Three of Lubbock, Texas’ most gifted singer-songwriters — Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Butch Hancock, and Joe Ely — recorded their last (and first) album as the Flatlanders way back in 1972. The distinctive styles they’ve since developed as solo artists perfectly complement one another: Gilmore’s high-lonesome croon, Hancock’s visceral songcraft, and Ely’s adrenalized country rock. A gleeful reunion.
