They may be the best years of your life, but high school can leave scars that last a lifetime. In Richard Linklater’s taut psychological drama, three old classmates reunite 10 years later to pick at the scabs. Drug-dealing slacker Vincent (Hawke) has come to confront John (Robert Sean Leonard), now a fledgling filmmaker, over Amy (Thurman), a mutual ex. The players scurry around a hotel room for the entire film (an adaptation of Steven Belber’s one-set play), propelled by dynamic digital video cinematography and a series of confrontations that leaves them raw, exposed, and, maybe, healed.
