Armstrong (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet) may be the mainstream’s most progressive film composer; see his concurrent work with Bjork and Massive Attack. His second non-soundtrack LP is a swirling blend of orchestral themes, electronic beats, vocals (including Bono, who reprises U2’s ”Stay (Faraway, So Close!)”), and samples (King Crimson’s 1974 art-rock classic ”Starless II”)—in essence, the modern symphony reimagined as a mix tape. Hey, concert promoters: The dude’s onto something. B+
