Tom Green hasn’t an easy time of it this past year, but he hasn’t lost his sense of humor, as he demonstrated Saturday (March 23) by showing up to accept five Golden Raspberry Awards for his flop ”Freddy Got Fingered.” Green was the first actor in the 22-year history of the awards to accept his Razzies in person, according to the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation, which aims to honor each year’s lousiest movie achievements. Green’s movie ”won” Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay, and he was named Worst Actor, Worst Director, and one-half of Worst Screen Couple (the other half was ”any animal he abuses”).
‘I’d just like to say to all the other nominees in the audience, I don’t think that I deserve it anymore than the rest of you,” a tuxedo-clad Green said at the Los Angeles ceremony, according to the Associated Press. ”I’d like to say that. I don’t think that it would be true, though.” With five awards, Green’s movie ties with past honorees ”Mommie Dearest” (1981), ”The Postman” (1997), and ”Wild Wild West” (1999) as most Razzed.
The Razzies’ other big ”winner” was Tim Burton’s ”Planet of the Apes,” which took home Worst Remake or Sequel and Worst Supporting Actor for Charlton Heston, as well as Worst Supporting Actress for Estella Warren. Warren’s award also honored her performance in Sylvester Stallone’s ”Driven”; the Razzies foundation describes that role as the ”character equivalent of a hood ornament.” Mariah Carey, meanwhile, saw her cleavage lose in the Worst Screen Couple category, but the singer did take home Worst Actress for her bomb ”Glitter.”
Here is the complete list of ”winners.”
