Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

A little bit Buffy, a generous helping of Blade, and a whole lot of Clint Eastwood, the hero of the 1985 cult anime hit Vampire Hunter D got the lavish theatrical feature treatment with Bloodlust. And it shows: The tale of a half-human/half-vampire bounty hunter’s search for a vampnapped woman is rendered in a staggeringly fluid (and likely expensive) animation style that puts the old flick to shame. As for the story itself, it does take some ponderous detours into meta-philosophy land, but by and large, it’s a Western told with a refreshingly Western sensibility.
