Meryl Streep had She-Devil. Jodie Foster had Nell. And at some point we may say that Laura Linney had Maze. This numbingly pedestrian indie finds the Oscar-caliber actress stuck between an idealistic doctor and a Tourette’s-stricken artist. But it’s the usually likable Morrow — lead, love interest, and writer-director — who should truly be ashamed. The Northern Exposure vet heaves and tics in a bizarrely insensitive imitation of the disease—he clearly thinks he’s capital-A acting. He’s really making a capital-A something else out of himself. D
