Italian For Beginners

Lone Scherfig’s romantic ensemble comedy is essentially a Danish Nora Ephron movie in Dogma 95 drag. The result is even more precious than it is tedious. A collection of singles show up at the same night-school Italian class, and the way that they become friends seems less a function of temperament than of lazy filmmaking; it’s lonelyhearts-community kitsch.
