IN THE LITTLE WORLD: A TRUE STORY OF DWARFS, LOVE, AND TROUBLE
In 1997, Richardson checked into the Atlanta Airport Marriott for the annual Little People of America Convention to gather meat for a magazine article. The resulting story, which described the ”big butts and big heads,” threw the dwarf community into an uproar. A weeklong assignment became a two-year bout of self-scrutiny as the author delved into the complicated relationships he had with his subjects. ”My first thought shames me still: A dwarf woman and a tall man in therapy together…wouldn’t that be great for the book!” While he offers valuable windows into this world, Richardson’s real obsession is his own, that of a conflicted journalist unafraid to dwell in his pit of neuroses.
