Backstreet Boy Nick Carter is arrested
The boy-band star wept after a misdemeanor arrest, a witness tells EW.com
The future Backstreet Boys ”Behind the Music” episode is getting better all the time. Last year AJ McLean underwent treatment for alcoholism, and now group heartthrob Nick Carter has been arrested in Tampa, Florida, for allegedly refusing to leave a bar on a police officer’s orders. He was charged Wednesday with a misdemeanor count of ”resisting or opposing a law enforcement officer without violence,” and quickly released.
According to the police report, an officer trying to restore order after an early-morning fight at the aptly named club Pop City asked Carter 10 times to leave the premises. When the singer allegedly refused, he was arrested, according to police.
Jennifer Guggino, a Brandon, Florida, resident listed as a witness to the incident, tells EW.com that Carter, 21, began ”bawling” upon his arrest, which she says took place outside of the club, in front of Carter’s car. ”I’ve never been arrested before,” he said, according to Guggino. (Carter’s spokesperson at Jive Records and a rep at his management company, The Firm, didn’t return calls for comment).
Carter appeared to be drinking on Tuesday night, according to Guggino. He and a group of friends were ”loud and obnoxious and causing problems” throughout the night, Guggino said, adding that at least one of Carter’s friends was thrown out of the bar after what the police report calls a ”large disturbance.” Carter is due in court March 4.
