Comedian Paula Poundstone spent several hours behind bars on Tuesday after she admitted to violating probation by taking drugs. Shortly after jailing Poundstone, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge sent her back to the live-in substance abuse treatment center where he’d sentenced her in October, when she pleaded no-contest to child endangerment charges.

”He jailed her to make a point,” says Jane Robison, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney. Poundstone is next due in court on Dec. 5, when she’s scheduled to be released from rehab. ”Rehab is never a smooth road,” Poundstone’s spokesperson, Allan Mayer tells ”What’s important is you pick yourself up and keep moving along towards your rehabilitation, and that’s exactly what Paula’s doing.”
