What was Jeffrey Wright thinking? Everything about this ”neo-noir” is so tired — the corrupt cops, oil-slick mobsters, double-crossing molls, flash-back-forward- and-sideways structure, and, mostly, the almost incoherent central crime (some money was stolen from someone, uh, sometime) — that for the first half hour you’re tempted to think Cement is an extremely clever comedy. Sadly, it’s not, and the flick quickly turns leaden gray — and about as interesting to watch as its title substance.
