The Frogs, Evening Primrose

More than 25 years after its premiere in a swimming pool, The Frogs, Sondheim’s quirky musical-theater experiment, finally gets full treatment with lavish orchestrations and two terrifically hammy Tony winners (Brian Stokes Mitchell and Nathan Lane). But the real gem is Primrose, a 1966 Mannequin-esque TV musical with four stunning ballads and an unexpected revelation in Neil Patrick Harris, the former Doogie Howser, who’s grown into a savvy, strong-voiced performer.
