The Simple Life (Leon Parker)
Parker has reunited with producer Joel Dorn on the latter’s indie label, and brought along old buddies. Steve Wilson cuts boppish lines. Sam Newsome’s horn moves serpentlike. Ugonna Okegwo’s bass throbs. Elizabeth Kontomanou’s chants soar, her scat informs. At the center beats Parker — on traps, percussion, or his own body — pumping blood through classics like ”Caravan” and originals recorded in the studio, in concert, even on the street.
