FUNNY MONEY

Kaaaa-yah! Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan unleashed their flying fists of fury on the box office this weekend, kicking up $67.4 million and chopping the old August opening record–held by The Sixth Sense–to pieces. The duo also may have jiujitsued Fox’s $200 million plans for Planet of the Apes, which plummeted 60 percent–a nasty bit of monkey business indeed. Meanwhile, as Original Sin was busy committing a cardinal one (opening at only $6.4 million despite having two presumably bankable stars), The Princess Diaries was a royal surprise, taking a king’s ransom of $22.9 million to land in third place. And a tip-o’-the-underground-comic to Ghost World, which floated on an almost scary $14,895 per-screen average to crack the top 20.
