To combat not so fine lines, Hollywood’s leading ladies slather on lotions from La Mer. Created in 1965 by a NASA physicist seeking relief for some serious chemical scars, the potions are now sold to wrinklephobes at luxe stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. La Mer fans Oprah Winfrey, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Sharon Stone, Edie Falco, Stella McCartney, and Heather Graham swear by pricey products such as the facial moisturizer ($1,000 for 16.5 ounces), Eye Balm ($95 for half an ounce), and Face Serum ($175 for one ounce). But is a little lotion really worth taking out a bank loan? ”Absolutely,” says beauty writer Mary Rose Almasi. ”I wasn’t a believer until I had a jar, but now I’d never use anything else.” Adds La Mer senior VP Debra Clark, ”Remember: It’s much easier to prevent a wrinkle than to get rid of one.” Just ask Michael Jackson.
