Summer Movie Body Count
As we head into summer’s dog days, our ongoing tally of on-screen fatalities has reached Darwinian heights. In Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, digital demons zap a total of 14 bodies, not one of them portrayed by a Screen Actors Guild member. Scary. Then Jurassic Park III offers a four-course meal of hapless humans for discriminating dino diners. Most recently, Tim Burton’s hit Planet of the Apes lays waste to more than just logic with its head-scratching ending: Roughly 30 simians and humans are felled by a variety of bloody means. Chalk it up to primate fear. That brings the total to 407, with another month of movie mayhem to go.
