DINO MITE

In the battle of the chompers, Julia Roberts and T. rex both found plenty of box office to bite into as two films opened to more than $30 million for only the second time in history. Jurassic Park III took the bigger nibble, swallowing $50.8 million–$600,000 more than the 1993 original’s bow, but $39.4 million less than The Lost World’s four-day opener in 1997. Still, JP III made Universal the first studio ever to open three straight films north of $40 million. And America’s Sweethearts’ $30.2 million is Roberts’ second-best rollout, trailing only Runaway Bride’s $35.1 million.
