Hedwig aficionados may have mixed reactions to how the film opens up the bent Off Broadway musical, but this soundtrack is almost inarguably superior to the already good theatrical cast recording, thanks to ”live”-er production and a cranked backing band that includes Bob Mould and Girls Against Boys alumni. One bonus track from the ’99 album has been axed and three added, but it’s essentially the same smart Stephen Trask score, a glam-rock amalgam of Bowie, Dietrich, and Jim Steinman, with one of the most indelible show tunes of the quarter century in ”Wicked Little Town.”
