Beyond Suspicion

After John Nolan (Goldblum) witnesses a botched robbery and an ex-con dies in his arms, he assumes the dead man’s identity — for no good reason — and then deceives the ex-con’s pen-pal girlfriend (Heche). First-time director Matthew Tabak attempts to inject a somnambulant and ethereal mood, while Goldblum looks like he’s just about ready to implode with his overly intense and usual brooding approach. By the end of the film, you’ll kind of wish he did. At least that would be something.
