Things you can tell just by watching it: (1) Writer-director Rodrigo Garcia is the son of magic-realist author Gabriel Garcia Marquez (check out those symbols); (2) Ally, Calista…Calista, Ally; (3) deliberately ”small” movies — no matter how stellar the cast (this one includes Glenn Close, Cameron Diaz, and Hunter in a series of vignettes about womanhood) — can too often be overly earnest and seem more fun to be in than to watch.
