Scott Weiland is as flamboyant as any glam-rocker…and slippery as a ghost. On STP’s fifth, it’s hard to tell what his real voice is, figuratively or literally: One moment he’s doing Iggy’s bottom-feeding monotone, then getting high and sweet on forceless folkiness you could call Dono-nirvana. As long as the band stick to pop-metal riffing, their recessive frontman’s shapelessness hardly matters, but the grrr goes out of ”Shangri” after the first few tracks.
