‘CROUCHING TIGER’ BEAT

Director Ang Lee pays homage to the martial arts fantasies of his youth by elevating the genre with romantic lyricism and broadening its appeal with famous Asian actors like Chow Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh. But let’s get real: The chop-rockin’ fight scenes are what we really want to see, and that’s why Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the top debut of the week (although the four Oscars probably didn’t hurt). However, for Tim Robbins and Ryan Phillippe, the action sadly comes to an end: The renters have spoken and have decided to squash AntiTrust like a dotcom start-up.
