Q In ”Swordfish,” John Travolta appears to take a busload of hostages on a wild flight through downtown L.A. Could a helicopter really make a bus airborne?

A Get on that magic bus! Robert Chambers of Erickson Air-Crane, which provided the film’s heavy-duty chopper, says it’s possible. A skycrane can carry up to 25,000 pounds — about the same as a fueled-up bus full of people. Still, Air-Crane took precautions for the stunt, gutting the bus to make it lighter. Also, the vehicle was fortified with an extra-tough internal frame so it stayed in one piece as it hovered over eight blocks, which had been closed for the shoot. ”It’s all doable,” Chambers says, ”if it’s choreographed and rehearsed properly.”
