CATCH OF THE DAY

After cranking out his share of box office flounders, John Travolta finally swam back to the top spot last weekend. Swordfish gives him his third largest debut ever, behind Face/Off and The General’s Daughter. Things were a tad less splashy for Ivan Reitman’s Evolution: The sci-fi comedy landed at No. 4 with $13.4 million. In a ‘toon-up, one week before opening wide to go head-to-head with Shrek, Disney’s Atlantis earned an animated $329,011 in just two theaters. Finally, after 25 weeks in theaters (and on top of its June 12 video release), O Brother, Where Art Thou? continues to perform; it’s now almost doubled the take of the Coen brothers’ previous top grosser, Fargo.
