Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
She voiced Disney’s pencil-drawn tomboy Mulan. Now Ming-Na speaks for curvaceous Dr. Aki, the eerily photorealistic (and decidedly Caucasian) computer animated star of this offshoot of the successful computer game series. Graphically, Aki is way beyond her PlayStation counterpart, but how will she go over this summer against the real live Angelina Jolie as ”Tomb Raider”’s Lara Croft? Speaking of disconcertingly perfect physiques, meet Gray, Aki’s military team partner in ridding a future Earth of some pesky dragon wraiths. (Think ”Aliens” meets ”Akira.”) He’s voiced by Baldwin but looks like a steroid injected Ben Affleck.
Says Ming-Na of her CGI costar, ”If I weren’t married, I’d wanna be dating this guy.” Still, ”Final Fantasy”’s most convincingly human face could belong to liver spotted Dr. Sid (Sutherland), a feisty medic. He was one of the last characters completed, so he’s among the most technically advanced — a huge booster shot in the race to breed perfectly virtual actors. Take that, Screen Actors Guild.
