One of jazz’s trumpeters-of-choice has settled on a ripe concept, with inviting tunes by great American songwriter Jimmy McHugh. Wisely, Blanchard calls on several fine singers: Between Diana Krall’s musky title track and Cassandra Wilson’s ironically brooding ”On the Sunny Side of the Street” are cameos by Dianne Reeves and Jane Monheit. We also hear a tough and tender instrumental, ”I’m in the Mood for Love,” which Blanchard paints as a mercurial mood.
