No, this only sounds like a feature length version of a ”Seinfeld” episode. It’s closer to ”The Boy in the Plastic Bubble” goes AWOL. Like that 1976 John Travolta TV movie, it’s the story of an immunodeficient young man (”October Sky”’s Gyllenhaal) who grows up in a germ free environment — only this time he busts out to chase the girl of his dreams (Shelton).
The comedy tracks the bubble suited Jimmy’s quest from suburban California to Niagara Falls, a journey fraught with loony encounters. ”I’m falling over waterfalls, flying in an airplane, and being tossed off motorcycles,” says Gyllenhaal, who had to wear a 40 pound costume during most of the shoot. ”I did a lot of the stunts because the bubble makes it safer to hit the ground.” The doorway to the makeup trailer must have been a killer, though.
