Hal Linden is endearing as a Holocaust survivor bubbling with pugnacious wit. And who can blame him? His son is a Republican speechwriter married to a shiksa, and mishegoss abounds as they prepare for his grandson’s bar mitzvah. To be sure, playwright Arje Shaw creates a fresh and charming setup. But an improbable finale — set in the Bitberg cemetery where President Reagan paid a controversial 1985 visit — saps the play of its dramatic heft, even while raising relevant questions about guilt and forgiveness. Think chicken soup, minus the matzo balls and overflowing with schmaltz. C+
