Just as D’Angelo reclaims his love man throne, along comes competition from this much touted young Philadelphian. Like D’Angelo’s ”Voodoo,” ”Soul Sista” epitomizes the neosoul return to basics in its use of human touch instruments, a flickering candle beat, and orgasmic vocal crooning: It’s musical body oil. And like ”Voodoo,” it still doesn’t definitively make the case that mumbly, heavy lidded R&B is better than sampling.
