Album Review: 'Steady Pull'
Ally McBeal should put the humdrum Vonda Shepard out to pasture and sign up spunky Brooke as its resident crooner. While her Lilith-appropriate folk-pop will resonate with the romantically plagued, Brooke is wiser and more adventurous than many clichéd contemporaries. She successfully adds bossa-nova-style loops to ”How Deep Is Your Love” and modernizes ”Room in My Heart” with drum machines. A few cuts veer toward MOR blandness, but her Pull‘s generally steady. B
