If these are the songs worth saving for the last dance, what the hell was playing before? Digging into the hip hop and R&B archives for the Save the Last Dance soundtrack, the producers mostly mine retread duds and a few relics: Chaka Demus & Pliers’ ”Murder She Wrote” has been dull since 1993 and the late Notorious B.I.G.’s presence on 112’s ”Only You” betrays its age. One highlight: Lucy Pearl’s ”You” has Snoop Dogg coming as close to crooning as he probably ever will.
