Music Review: 'Oranger'
Their name was inspired by a lyric from the Who’s Tommy, but the San Fran pop trio is just as influenced by the Beach Boys’ supple harmonies and the Beatles’ psychedelic excursions. Occasionally, Oranger’s bright vibes belie sad-sack sentiments (”Straight love is a game/And it’s always such a shame”). Yet even that sounds blissful. Never mind that the band’s touchstones are at times too apparent; the indelible hooks and mellow melodies make for pleasant déjà vu. B+
