WHAT WOMEN WANT

A fizzy screwball comedy that’s about as deep as an episode of Bewitched, but it’s got a high-sporting verbal zing. Nick (Mel Gibson), a self-centered ladykiller, suffers a freak accident and is suddenly cursed — or is it blessed? — with the ability to hear women’s thoughts. The guy version of a chick flick (call it a gick flick), the movie reassures men that they can live in the postfeminist world without giving up their freedom, their cherished ability to be randy charmers. Gibson, in a disarmingly nimble, fast-break performance, makes Nick’s new hyper-empathy look like the essence of virile panache. B
