Brad Pitt's new movie may be retitled
Plus, the ''Fletch'' prequel may be put on hold
FILE UNDER ‘BEAVER COLLEGE’ There are marketing challenges and there are marketing challenges. Sony’s indie arm, Screen Gems, is facing quite a doozie with Guy Ritchie’s (”Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”) tentatively titled ”Snatch.” ”It might be a little problematic for audiences here,” says one source who worked on the diamond heist thriller, which stars Brad Pitt, Benicio Del Toro, and Vinnie Jones. The studio is considering changing the title to ”Snatch’d” or ”Snatched” before its release early next year. ”One thing we definitely won’t be seeing,” says the source, ”is the English campaign, which was ‘Snatch. Opening wide this fall.”’
PAGING DR. ROSENROSEN Sit tight in that waiting room. Kevin Smith is backburning his ”Fletch” remake for one last go round with his cult characters Jay and Silent Bob. The tentatively titled ”View Askew 5” is ”going to be the last one in the Askewniverse series that started out as the Jersey trilogy and became five films,” says Smith. Returning to Smith’s set are Jason Mews, Jason Lee (who will play both his characters from ”Chasing Amy” and ”Mallrats”), Ben Affleck (who will reprise his ”Chasing Amy” role), and Chris Rock (who’s trading in his fallen angel Rufus from ”Dogma” for a new character). Whether God will return to Askewniverse in the form of Alanis Morissette is yet to be determined.
FURTHERMORE We hear that Lions Gate is developing a script for a sequel to ”American Psycho.” Original coscreenwriter Guinevere Turner is said not to be involved…. And for the Aww, ain’t it cute file: Director Bart Freundlich and ”Hannibal” star Julianne Moore will reteam, professionally, for a romantic drama, ”World Traveler,” next month. The couple, who met on the set of Freundlich’s debut, ”The Myth of Fingerprints,” have a 2 year old son.
