The punishing thrash of ”Jamie Thunder” recalls Metallica, while the mangled vocals are pure Primus. The militant thrust of ”The Fear” packs Sex Pistol punch, and the narcotic guitar of ”Lake” is like Sonic Youth. Surely, Blur guitarist Graham Coxon loves indie rock. But the Brit star is too ambitious for his own good: The Golden D is more messy maelstrom than cathartic cacophony. C+
