God (and critics) have mercy on the actor chosen to bear the cross of playing Jesus, a delicate role that requires magnetic strength and serenity — not to mention potentially bad hippie hair — but at the same time lacks the scene-stealing complexities of Judas or Pontius Pilate (played by a perfectly snide Gary Oldman in this, CBS’ uninspired rendition of the most inspirational story ever told). With his teen-beat smile, SoCal voice, and matted wig, Sisto seems more like a philosophical Deadhead than a man shouldering the burden of the world’s sins. C
