Continuing his crusade to bring the literary canon to life for a TV-reared audience, producer Robert Halmi Sr. (Gulliver’s Travels, Arabian Nights) sets his sights on Jules Verne’s 1870 classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Originally appearing as a 1997 NBC miniseries, this abbreviated version maintains Halmi’s signature attention to detail, especially with the gorgeous interiors of Captain Nemo’s (Caine’s) super-sub, the Nautilus. The underwater seascapes are less convincing but make for kid-friendly eye candy nonetheless. B-
