Boy meets dog — an old formula, yes, but in My Dog Skip, Muniz (TV’s ”Malcolm in the Middle”) teaches it new tricks, turning in some of the best kid-to-canine chemistry since ”Old Yeller.” Kudos also to Bacon, who expertly communicates quiet pain as his battle-scarred father. With its ”Forrest Gump”-esque score, WWII-era backdrop, and cute-pooch trump card, ”My Dog Skip,” like so many others of its breed, blatantly manipulates your tear ducts — and every exquisitely schmaltzy moment is worth its weight in Kleenex.
