Parting is such sweet sorrow — especially now that hair bangs are making a resurgence. Cindy Crawford and Calista Flockhart were among the first to take the plunge. But before performing a self-styled hatchet job, keep in mind that you’re not suddenly supposed to look the way you did in your third-grade school photo. Today’s bangs, says Etienne Taenaka of Vidal Sassoon in Beverly Hills, help anchor the tousled, textured haircuts currently in vogue. ”My favorite [fringe] this season is Amber Valletta’s,” says Taenaka. ”Hers are sexy, demure, and mysterious.” Oddly enough, bangs on one of the sexiest women in the world, Cindy Crawford, ”make her look more like a mom,” says Taenaka. ”It’s just more practical.” But still a cut above the rest.
